Explore Chico

Things to do in Chico

Go out during the day. Come back to a clean, quiet home at night.

Eat and drink

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Chico is the home of Sierra Nevada, one of the most famous craft breweries in the country. The Taproom restaurant is worth a visit on its own, brewery tours run daily, and the Big Room hosts live music. About a 10 minute drive from all five houses.

Outdoors

Bidwell Park

One of the largest city parks in the country at over 3,600 acres. Cool off at Sycamore Pool, a huge swimming hole in Big Chico Creek at One Mile, bike the shaded lower park, or hike the canyon trails in wilder upper park.

Shops and restaurants

Downtown Chico

Restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and local stores surround City Plaza, a short walk or drive from every one of our homes. Most guests end up downtown at least once a day.

Local flavor

Saturday Farmers Market

The Chico Certified Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings downtown, year round and rain or shine. Local produce, almonds, honey, flowers, and a good breakfast.

Campus

Chico State

One of the prettiest campuses in the CSU system, with Big Chico Creek running right through it. Perfect for campus visits, game days, and graduation weekends. All five homes are about a mile away.

Arts and family

Museums

The Museum of Northern California Art is about a 10 minute walk from most of our homes, and the Gateway Science Museum next to campus is a fun hands-on stop with kids.

Practical

Visiting Enloe Medical Center

Many of our guests stay with us while a loved one is at Enloe. Every home is within a short walk or drive of the hospital, so you can come and go easily at any hour. If there is anything that would make a hard week easier, just ask.

Further afield

Day trips

Table Mountain wildflowers in spring, Lake Oroville and Feather Falls to the southeast, and Lassen Volcanic National Park about 90 minutes northeast. Highway 32 climbs into the mountains straight from town.

Seasonal

Almond blossoms

In late February the orchards around Chico bloom white and pink for a few weeks. A drive on the back roads through the blossoms is a local tradition.
